I mentioned Wednesday that I was just crazy enough to sometimes visit the same store twice in the same week, to take advantage of their weekly specials. This was one of those weeks. Pay no attention to the twin behind the loot, except to ogle his extreme cuteness... we were in the middle of mid-week homework, when I shot this pic. :)
My total saved in this Publix run was $32.38. What was my out-of-pocket cost? $1.29. No joking.
Here's how it worked out:
- 3 Sunkist Almond Accents (great for salads!) 2/$5. Used 3 $1 off coupons
- 2 Similac Quart formulas $5.99 each. Used 2 $5 coupons + 1 Similac $5 check
- Birds Eye Voila frozen meal BOGO for $4.99. Used $1 coupon
- 8 jars Beech Nut baby food BOGO for $0.55. Used $1 off 8 coupon
- Glass Plus BOGO for $2.59. Used $1 off coupon
- Craisins BOGO for $2.29. No coupon-- can you believe it? :)
- Publix brand shells & cheese-- penny item
I would normally separate my order into more than 1, to take advantage of the penny item, but a little old couple got in line right behind me and I couldn't bear to make them wait on me.
My friend Kristi also went that day and here's her haul:
Her total for all this was a mere $26 and there are some pretty pricey items like Little Swimmers and sunscreen in there! Good goin', Kristi! :)
As long as I live, I will never be quite as savvy as the coupon queens (or kings), such as those featured on Extreme Couponing. My goal is to save my family some money, not be obsessed with it. There's a difference between being vigilant and being obsessed. I applaud those families that are able to get $1,500 worth of groceries and only pay $10 or less. Good for them. However, I'll never feel inferior (and don't want you to either) for not being on the same level as anyone else. Go slow, take your time, learn how to save some money, and whittle away at your grocery bill. I've managed to cut mine in half, but it's taken a while. Hang in there and remember, if you missed your favorite item on a good deal, it'll be on sale again, soon. Happy Friday, everybody! :)
