Yard of the Month-- For Cheapskates

So I'm running this morning with my friend Kim, who (woot woot) is training for her first half-marathon. We pass this amazing yard and she tells me the owner has bags upon bags of fertilizer and grass seed in his garage. Then it hits me... I don't think I've shared this with her... or you!

Home Depot stores (and potentially Lowe's as well; you'd have to ask) sells damaged bags of yard 'stuff' on Saturday mornings by the pallet. Throughout the week, as they have bags rip, tear, get stabbed by the forklift, etc, they pile them on pallets. Then, the first person there on Saturday mornings (remember what your Momma always said, "early bird gets the worm"), gets all the pallets for $5 each. Woot!

We live on what used to be a cow pasture, so you can probably imagine the intense amounts of weeds we have. I constantly apologize to my neighbors for having to live beside rednecks that, if they could, would buy goats to avoid having to mow. Because of that, we definitely don't seed, weed, and aerate our yard like our precious neighbors whose yards win "yard of the month", month after stinkin' month! If only they gave an award for "weediest", "most plastic toys left outside", or the like, I'd be home free! :)

With fall coming on, if your yard is begging for a little TLC, you might drop by your local home center during the week and verify that they also observe this policy. If they do, you could score a garage filled with bags and bags of yard 'stuff' for mere pennies!

Have a great weekend! Save on, friends! :)
