Uber Cheap

Okay, so here's another confession: I'm ultra cheap-- practically uber cheap. Here's probably more than you care to know about the level of cheapness to which I'm willing to stoop:

1) Valentine's Day is Monday and so are the kiddos parties.  When my kids started having parties in preschool, I was excited for them, but didn't want to buy the boxed cards and pay $2, 3, or 4 for them. I mean, it's paper for goodness sake, that kids who couldn't even write their names were going to scrawl all over. That's when I discovered Dollar Tree carries Valentine's cards. YAAY!! They have several character themes from which to choose and I have yet to get the 'stink eye' for not taking them to select costlier (I think that's a word!) styles.

2) Did you know hard candy has a shelf life of like 10,000 years? I'm kidding, but here's my point: We got about 500 (thousand) Blow Pop and Tootie Roll Pop suckers for Halloween. If my kids ate one everyday (my dentist could retire by the end of the month and), we still wouldn't have eaten them all.

A day or two after the sugar high from Halloween candy starts to wear off, I separate the candy and put all the suckers in a gallon size bag. When Valentine's rolls around, BAM-- everyone gets a cool sucker taped to their ultra cheap, non-stink-eye cards and all is well in my house. And just in case you're wondering about the Valentine suckers pictured, they are absolutely left over from last year! We bag up any left-over, seasonal, hard candy after the holiday luster has worn off. Should this bother you, please toss said suckers when your kids bring home the ultra cheap, non-stink-eye cards from my kiddos. Just a thought though, I'm just betting that there are warehouses somewhere with holiday themed candy from 2010, just waiting to be put back on shelves for 2011...

Are you uber cheap? Let me know the cheapness to which you are willing to stoop! I might just be inspired to stoop lower. :)

  3. Love it! So glad I am not the only one passing around that leftover candy!
I tell you, in addition to saving some of that leftover candy, there are tons of coupons floating around between Halloween and now! On several occasions I have been able to get some good candy at Publix (of course - B1G1)for almost nothing! (It's also nice when you need to put together a party bag or treat bag for a birthday party!)

  4. I'm a winner. I'm saving $$ because V-Day is my BIRTHDAY and I did not go out to spend money...nada. Where was I? I was at the university library using up THEIR paper (which I did pay for through my tuition, mind you) to create my lesson plans! ;) Thought you'd appreciate that one!
Lovin' your cheapness! Keep up the good work yo!
